• The initial intercom systems on the market was the, Kocom & Commax intercom systems.
• The above intercom systems are well known in the South African market.
• Both systems operated via a 2 wire connection for speech from the gate station to the handset and vice versa.
• Both intercom systems were listed as a 1 to 1, which means that the system cannot be extended with other, extra gate stations & handsets.
• Later on, Commax & Kocom supplied 1 to 2 audio intercom systems as the need for it was much greater. This meant that only one intercom gate station could be fitted with a extra handset inside the dwelling. It was common to fit the 2nd intercom handset in lapa’s or other entertaining rooms.
• BPT intercom systems saw the need for a smaller, cheaper range intercom, whereby the BPT Red intercom system was designed.
