When trouble shooting CCTV systems, one needs to follow the basics.

  • It is more common now, to blame Load shedding for CCTV equipment not working anymore.
  • If your monitor has a no signal error present, then the fault finding is more difficult, the starting point of fault finding is also different.
  • When your DVR machine is still displaying its frame work on the monitor and all your cameras are down, it is easy to trouble shoot CCTV systems.
  • Such a fault points to the cameras not giving images through, when all CCTV cameras are down it points to the CCTV Cameras power supply source.
  • When doing fault finding on CCTV systems;
  • Make sure that all equipment is still plugged in and switched on.
  • It is common to accidentally move equipment for cleaning purposes and during the moving, electrical connections could become disturbed.
  • CCTV systems normally consists of 5x components.
  • The dvr machine with its own power supply and image signal cord to the tv set/ monitor.
  • The cameras present which are connected with wires back to the CCTV DVR machine, NVR machine.
  • The power supplies powering the cameras, which could be one big power supply or individual power supplies for each CCTV camera.
  • When a on/ off trouble condition appears (camera coming on and off at times) it is a indication of a poor electrical connection between the camera and the DVR/ NVR or the camera power supply.

It is not common for electrical supply cords to be faulty.
